The prominence of artists and creatives in the Newark area has been significant, and therefore, these people need a place of shelter to reside in. The building features 75 living units, with accompanying work units on each floor, along with 14 different art studios to accommodate for a wide range of artists. In addition, there was public spaces such as collaboration rooms, a seasonal exhibition hall, gift shop, grocery store, and bakery. Outdoor public spaces are also integrated as well, so that artists can expand their influence past the building and extend beyond the site; this includes and outdoor farmer’s market and a sculptural garden at the front of the apartment plaza. All of these types of spaces are use specific facade materials to mark which program is which: concrete for living, brick for work, and curtain walls for public space.
